We join the crew of the Cutter Mohawk underway on a Summer Patrol. ENS Kristine Rice will be keeping us updated during this deployment with weekly updates. Thanks, Kristine. All photos are official Coast Guard photos.
All good weeks underway on patrol should start off like week 4 did for MOHAWK. The crew enjoyed a restful Sunday which ended in an overnight boarding of a suspect fishing vessel. MOHAWK worked tirelessly and with the completion of the boarding proceeded to our port call. The Morale committee sponsored another prize-filled night of Bingo while enroute; the grand prize was a digital camera. Another reason to celebrate this week was the promotion of our Executive Officer from Lieutenant Commander to Commander. Congratulations, CDR Polizzotto! ET2 Dunning also advanced to a First Class Petty Officer. Congratulations ET1! Twelve crewmembers received their 1 yr Sea Service Ribbon, including the junior officers of the USCGA Class of 2007. Once MOHAWK arrived in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for our port call, the crew said good-bye to several shipmates and hello to nine new ones. Additionally, the Chiefs sponsored and cook-out for the first-class Petty Officers and CDR Polizzotto hosted her wetting down at the Bowling Alley for the entire crew! There were plenty of beverages and food to go around for everyone, thanks for the party XO! Special thanks go out to the Navigation Division and their extra effort for rigging Full Dress Ship in honor of the 4th of July. The crew enjoyed fireworks and several shows hosted by the local MWR including a comedy night and several bands. The engineers deserve many thanks for their hard work inport repairing one of the engines. The department worked through the night to ensure MOHAWK was back underway and fighting the good fight. On Sunday everyone enjoyed Holiday routine and in the evening the cooks hosted Sundaes on Sunday!
