Catchin' Up

MOHAWK started out the week enjoying rest and relaxation on the sunny island of Jamaica. The crew was very excited to slow the pace of life and have a few days to enjoy Jamaica’s crystal sand beaches and sunny weather. Several crewmembers volunteered their time on the second day at the West Haven Children’s Home for disabled children and adults. The Rotary Club of Montego Bay was very appreciative of the Coast Guard to offer up their time and the crew found the mission very rewarding to be able to assist the children of Jamaica.

Immediately following our departure from Jamaica, MOHAWK acted as a lilypad to help refuel a helicopter transporting personnel for emergency purposes.

Due to the rough weather our damage control drill was cancelled and in its place HS2 Gomez and LT Schurke held training. HS2 Gomez gave refresher training regarding the eight basic wounds and LT Schurke gave a brief synopsis on shoring and structural damage.

On Saturday the weapons division showed off some of their guns during a M240 gunnery exercise. Afterwards the crew enjoyed holiday routine and pizza night!
