Catchin' Up
Welcome to week 5 of life underway with Cutter MOHAWK! We passed the midway point of the patrol and everyone is anxious to see what will happen in the next few weeks before returning home to Key West.
The crew maintained an aggressive operational tempo with small boat training and operations and law enforcement boardings. The gunners finally had the opportunity to shoot the 76mm gun! There was a Hispanic American dinner to celebrate the month’s cultural significance and the Chief’s cooked breakfast for dinner on Saturday night, Denny’s style!
Crewmembers took part in a small arms fire on Sunday afternoon and shot off rounds of .40 caliber pistol, 12 gauge shotgun and M-16 machine gun.
MOHAWK conducted extensive Law Enforcement operations this week, accruing long hours of highly professional aerial and surface searches for vessels of interest. Members of the law enforcement team practiced handcuffing techniques on the flight deck. The crew enjoyed the first swim call of the patrol on Monday afternoon. In addition, MOHAWK rendezvoused with Cutter SPENCER to swap parts and conduct joint helo operations.
A special congratulations goes out to both IT1 McAllister and ET1 Smithers for their promotions to First-Class Petty Officers! Both promotions were well deserved and we’re pleased to have such high performing shipmates on our team!
