Catchin' Up
Time underway goes by so fast! Here we are finishing up week 2 onboard MOHAWK. The past few days have been very busy. Week 2 marked the continuation of training for new crewmembers. The Weapons Division coordinated a .50 Caliber Gunnery Exercise in which many crewmembers participated. The crew also received anti-terrorism force protection training in preparation for visits to foreign port calls. The Engineering Department entertained the crew at quarters with tid-bits of knowledge on Damage Control and procedures for emergency evolutions. Mid-week the Operations Officer held on-the-bridge training for all break-in underway OOD’s. The five break-ins practiced conning the ship during a simulated man overboard drill and also filled the other bridge positions.
We launched our small boats for crewmembers to take their check rides. BM2 Briley and BM3 Stanton both passed and are now coxswain qualified! Congratulations!
Each Wednesday the crew is invited to spend the afternoon working on professional development. That can be anything ranging from correspondence schools, to studying for qualifications, or taking online courses or tests. This past Wednesday was the first of this patrol and the crew really appreciated the Command making an afternoon available. The Damage Control Assistant trained new crewmembers in damage control techniques and the Education Services Officers were on the messdeck ready to answer any questions pertaining to how crewmembers could professionally enhance themselves.
There are several fishing enthusiasts onboard and whenever the chance arises for a fish call, they are there with pole in hand on the fantail. Our BM2 and ET2 hooked a barracuda and had a blue marlin on the line, but unfortunately the lead snapped.
That wraps up week 2! MOHAWK will leave you with a few more significant events that took place!
Congratulations & Farewells
