USCGC ACUSHNET WAT/WAGO/WMEC-167
1961

The caption for the above photo states "The 213-foot Coast Guard Cutter ACUSHNET is shown nearing the end of a 600-mile tow of the 115-foot fishing vessel FELICIA AND GRACE. The fishing vessel, with eight men aboard, developed engine trouble on December 16, 1961, 200 miles southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland on the western edge of the Grand Banks. The ACUSHNET, out of Portland, ME took the FELICIA AND GRACE in tow on December 18th and delivered her in her home port of Gloucester, MA on December 21". (USCG)

She was commissioned on February 5, 1944 as the USS SHACKLE ARS-9 and transfered to the CG and commissioned on August 23, 1946.

She is now homeported in Ketchikan AK and with the decommissioning of the CGC STORIS on February 8, 2007 she has become the oldest Cutter in the fleet and changed her black hull numbers to gold making her the "Queen of the Fleet".
