having served her entire career out of Portsmouth VA.

Replacing the San Francisco Lightship with a unmanned 40 foot large navigational buoy. The CGC Comanche picked up two
buoys earlier in Panama and delivered one to San Francisco and the other to Eureka to replace Blunts Reef Lightship.

Willow is retrieving a damaged buoy. While stationed at Point Reyes LBS, we were called to standby the Drakes Bay entrance
buoy that had it's cage destroyed when caught in the chain towline of the tug Sea Giant. It was very foggy that morning and
also very eerie as we couldn't see the buoy but could hear this awesome "wheezing" and groaning noise coming from
the damaged buoy as it rode the swells.

Crew Change September 1960
The crew change was because of a home port change. JONQUIL was at Portsmouth VA and the CONIFER was out of Base Fort
Macon, NC. The CONFIFER was assigned to Portsmouth because of it's ice breaking hull. JONQUIL was steam and the CONIFER was
diesel, so the engineers stayed with the ship they were assigned prior to the change.

Although now decommissioned, the SALVIA is still serving her country at the Little Creek Naval Station. She is used to
help train the USS GRASP and GRAPPLE in salvage. She is occasionaly beached and the two salvage vessels hone their skills
in trying to safely remove her to deep water.

USCGC FORSYTHIA WAGL-63

The CGC Forsythia, built by Avondale Marine Ways, New Orleans, La., February 16, 1943, was a 114-foot, 230 ton tender,
and one of three such vessels (her sisters were the Dogwood [WAGL-259] and Sycamore [WAGL-268]) built to replace the stern
paddlewheel steamers that the Coast Guard decided were too expensive to maintain. She was built by Avondale Marine Ways of
Westwego, LA, and entered service in 1943. She was stationed at Sewickley, PA until 1963 and then Memphis, TN, until she
was decommissioned in 1977. (USCG)

USCGC CHIPPEWA
The CGC Chippewa is a 75 foot river buoy tender typical of cutters on the inland waterways. She is 75 feet long with a
130 foot barge. She is homeported at Paris Landing TN with a crew of 16. Her area of responsibility includes the Ohio, Tennessee,
and upper Mississippi rivers.
