USCGC CAMPBELL WGC32
March 16, 1945

The contributor feels that this photo was probably taken just before they left the Pacific. He was an RM1 and the ship was part of a Naval Task Unit that had the Communications Commander aboard and loaded with lots of communication equipment. Although her normal designation was WPG (Gun Boat) this shows GC which I believe was Gun Boat, Communications.

The Coast Guard cutter INGHAM is one of the 327-ft. 'Secretary Class' of cutters built in 1936. Early in her career she operated on the Bering Sea Patrol out of Seattle and Port Angeles, Wash. During World War II she engaged in convoy escort duties in Greenland waters and the North Atlantic, making a number of trips to Casablanca and Bizerte. She saw combat duty in the Caribbean and later in the Pacific campaign areas. In 1968, while assigned to combat duty in the Vietnam War, she also dispensed medical assistance to So. Vietnamese villages. Her peace-time duties have included search and rescue operations, law enforcement, ocean station patrol, among others.

She was decommissioned on May 27, 1988 and became a museum ship in Baltimore before being donated to the Patriots Point Maritime Museum in Charleston, South Carolina as a museum ship, where she rests in a splendid and well deserved retirement. She was the most decorated vessel in the Coast Guard fleet and was the only cutter to ever be awarded two Presidential Unit Citations.(USCG)

Although she is not displaying her hull number, judging from the flags that are flow, I believe this to be the pre-war CGC Duane.
