Do not know what is going on here but do know that the Revenue Cutter's frequently took a Federal Judge to the remote islands of Alaska. Could they be waiting to see the "Man"?

FORMER USCGC BEAR
OCTOBER 29, 1935

Upon the BEAR's return in 1935 to the U.S. from an antarctic expedition with Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, USN, she sailed up the Potomac River to Washington, D.C., where a rousing celebation awaited her. The BEAR had been purchased by Byrd in 1932 and refitted at Boston Navy Yard. She sailed on September 25, 1933 and reached the Bay of Whales, Antarctica on January 31, 1934. (USCG)

USRC SNOHOMISH
1908

Built by Pusey & Jones in Wilmington DE and commissioned on November 15 1908. Length 152', Beam 29', Draft 17'6", Displ 880 tons, Max speed 12 kts, Compliment 53, Armament 1 3"50. Decommissioned 1934 and sold.

Classified as a sea-going tug and originally home-ported in Neah Bay WA. She was temporarily transferred to the Navy on April 6 1917 for WWI service and returned on August 28 1918. Her CO in the early 1920s was then LT Russel Waesche who later became Commandant in 1936 serving through 1946.(USCG)
